Where do we even begin? This was an International convention that had been in all of our calendars for years—and it did not disappoint. We competed in the collegiate [under-26] contest and had a respectable 7th-place finish, out of 28 quartets. Overall, we were happy with how the performance went—perhaps as well as it was going to go given the jitters of singing at the Air Canada Centre, a building in which our hometown Maple Leafs would be playing on our TV sets growing up.
But the true noteworthiness of the event came when the chorus of which all four of us are proud to be a part—the Toronto Northern Lights—took home the chorus championship for the first time in its history, and on home soil to boot. International conventions are unfailingly the highlight of our barbershop year, and this one definitely lived up to the anticipation. We’re really looking forward to taking this next year to improve our singing (easily our lowest-scoring category) and building on this performance for next year’s International in…wait for it…Las Vegas, NV!
